Method. 1. Heat oil and ghee in a heavy-bottomed pan or a 4 or 5 liter pressure cooker. Add the whole spices and stir until fragrant. Next add thinly sliced onion, salt and saute until it changes to a light golden color. Add ginger-garlic paste and continue to sauté until onion turns golden brown.

Add 2 cups water, cover the pressure cooker and let it cook till for 2 to 3 whistles and turn off the heat. Allow the pressure to release naturally. Once the Thor Chal is cooked, fluff up the rice and garnish it with raisins, cashews and cinnamon powder. Serve Banana Stem Pulao along with Bengali Style Cholar Dal , Chaal Kopi and Phulka for your everyday meals.
