Herradura, owned by the Romo de la Pena family, is one of the oldest tequila distilleries in Mexico, and has grown into a large company without losing its almost fanatical devotion to quality.
How do you make a margarita with tequila?
Combine tequila, triple sec, and lime juice with a good amount of crushed ice in a blender or shaker. Rub the rim of a chilled cocktail glass with a piece of cut lime or water and dip the rim of the glass into a saucer of salt. Fill glass with ice. Pour ice into blender. Add liquor and sweet & sour mix. Blend until smooth.
Where does the name Herradura tequila come from?
“Herradura” means horseshoe. The distillery had been around for over a century longer (see below), but “Herradura Tequila” was first registered with the Mexican government in 1928.
Why does the bottle of Herradura have a horseshoe on it?
Not that we’re super superstitious, but Herradura’s bottles have the horseshoe shape facing down. However, there’s an easy way to literally turn your luck around: When you pour tequila out, the Herradura horseshoe faces upward. Bing Crosby was a fan. Crosby liked his Christmases white and his alcoholic beverages agave-based.
Step 1. Moisten the rim of a glass with a lime wedge. Sprinkle salt onto a plate. Lightly dip the moistened rim into the salt. The reposado tequila is much lighter on the note having been rested in wood for a month which provides the slightly golden hue to the spirit. The taste has caramel notes with a real spice punch at the end. We tried this mixed in a rockstar margarita made with cointreau, agave syrup and muddled pineapple finished with black pepper.
